Dr. Xitong Liu joined GWU as an assistant professor in the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering in August 2019. Dr. Liu holds a Ph.D. in geography and environmental engineering from Johns Hopkins University. His research interests lie at the intersection of interfacial and colloid science, membrane separation, and electrochemistry. His research aims to study interfacial phenomena and separation technologies to provide guidance for developing more efficient and cost-effective water treatment and resource recovery technologies. Dr. Liu's research has been published in peer-reviewed journals including Environmental Science & Technology, Langmuir, and Environmental Science: Nano. Dr. Liu is a reviewer for more than 5 scholarly journals. Dr. Liu currently teaches graduate-level course Industrial Waste Treatment, graduate-level course Aquatic Chemistry, and an undergraduate course Environmental Engineering Design: Drinking Water Treatment.
