Positions

My historical research focuses on abolitionist visual rhetoric--the ways anti-slavery engravers and editors depicted enslaved and free African Americans, slaveholders, and abolitionists as part of their polemic. A more recent and immediately relevant interest is the history of the George Washington University, especially in its early years as Columbian College, when it was shaped by slavery in important ways. Finally, my writing studies work includes collaboration with WID faculty in STEM fields and a separate research project on the rhetoric of academic history research articles.
