Richard J Katz Faculty Member

Positions

Dr Katz received his MD from the New York University. He completed his medical residency at the Bronx Municipal Hospital Albert Einstein School of Medicine and Boston City Hospital and his cardiology fellowship at Georgetown University. Dr. Katz is the Bloedorn Professor of Cardiology and Director of the Division of Cardiology and the GW Heart and Vascular Institute in Department of Medicine, George Washington University School of Medicine. Dr. Katz has been an author or coauthor on over 100 manuscripts and over 100 abstracts. He has been PI or co-investigator on a series of investigator initiated mobile health projects targeting District of Columbia vulnerable patients with diabetes, heart failure, hypertension, nutrition needs and medication adherence. To enhance the impact of mHealth in management of chronic disease, Dr. Katz has incorporated community health workers into the mHealth system. He recently completed a PCORI project assessing the impact of mHealth with and without community health workers. In addition, he was Co-PI on an innovative community health worker plus mHealth heart failure readmission project and an SBIR funded cardiac nutrition mHealth program. He has several new grants submitted to integrate community healthworkers with nutrition in underserved patients.
