Positions

In the current reporting period, my focus has been to provide engaging experiences for students in performance in Dance, Theatre and Music. By coordinating the conversations between faculty, staff and students we have given our students a thread of connection and continuity in the performing arts during the pandemic in the spring ’21 semester. In the fall ’21 semester, we gently, and successfully returned to performance. Throughout, the students continued to connect the praxis of their craft to scholarship and inquiry. I am confident that our students will continue to be able to come back with the skills they learned remotely and find their place seamlessly in our in-person teaching and learning environment. During this time I have been advisor for 3 senior capstone projects in music: Daniel Halsted - "She Moved Through the Fair" An Original Musical. May 2021 Rachel Asaeda - "The Debate About Bel Canto" A research paper and a recital (Souvenir) May 2021 Eleanor D’Andria – “A Special Interdisciplinary Podcast Project on Music Education. Fall 2021 (ongoing) Natalie Parks – A Reimagining of Broadway Songs Through a Queer Perspective. Fall 2021 (ongoing) In the Theatre and Dance program, I facilitated and contributed to a series of town halls on DEIA subjects that included guest facilitators and where we addressed with students, faculty and staff the systemic racism in the theatre industry and in our curriculum. The outcome was a selection of shows and guest artists/designers that are intentionally inclusive. We also continued that work into the fall semester by bringing in the guest facilitator again for a town hall on how to teach and work in a diverse and inclusive space that is safe for all.
