Positions

Since I joined the faculty at GW, I have engaged in research, teaching and service activities that are related to movement disorders and medical education. I have been working on several projects with medical student mentees. For the first project, which examines the inpatient management and hospital outcomes of patients with Parkinson disease, we are working on a manuscript to summarize our findings The second project, which involves a cross-sectional survey assessing health-related quality of life in patients with Parkinson's disease who have engaged with online exercise classes during the pandemic, we are also in the process of drafting a manuscript. Finally, I continue to work with medical students and residents on co-authoring case reports of interesting cases that we have encountered. In the last year, 1 student has been co-author on a peer-reviewed publication, and 2 students have presented abstracts at a national conference. From an education standpoint, I had been directing the medical student neuroscience clerkship for almost 8 years, when I stepped down from this role in November 2021 to assume a new role as an interim assistant dean of student affairs. While I continue to teach lectures periodically in the neuroscience clerkship, for neurology residents, and for preclinical students, I have shifted to start teaching and creating formal sessions on career development to guide students on their journey through medical training. In the last 6 months, I have designed or recreated over a dozen career advisory sessions across the four years of medical school. From a service standpoint, I completed my service on the Committee for Undergraduate Medical Education (CUMEC) in March 2022. Within the community, I continue to serve as Chair of the Medical Advisory Board of the Parkinson Foundation of the National Capital Area (PFNCA), and on their Board of Directors. In this capacity, I organize educational initiatives for Parkinson patients and caregivers, teach learning sessions throughout the year, attend support groups, and speak at the annual conference for Parkinson patients and their caregivers. Finally, I serve on the executive board of the quarterly Regional Movement Disorders Conference, together with colleagues from the neighboring institutions in DC and Baltimore.
