Lorenzo Norris Faculty Member

Positions

Dr. Norris currently serves as the Associate Dean of Student Affairs and Administration for George Washington University (GW) School of Medicine and Health Sciences (SMHS) and is an Associate Professor of Psychiatry in the GWU department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences. Since arriving at GWU in 2006, Dr. Norris has held a variety of leadership positions including: Director of the GW Hospital Medical Illness Clinic; Director of the GW Survivorship Center Psychiatric Services; Director of the GW Hospital Consult Liaison Services; Medical Director of Psychiatric and Behavioral Services for George Washington University Hospital, and Associate Residency Director for the Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences. He regularly publishes papers in academic journals and has presented at many academic symposiums and national meetings. Dr. Norris has guest edited four issues of Psychiatric Annals with themes ranging from Cancer and Depression to Hope in Cancer Survivorship. Dr. Norris is currently serves as the Editior-in Chief for MDedge Psychiatry which is the #1 online journal for the field of psychiatry. Dr. Norris currently serves as DC Chapter President of the Washington Psychiatric Society, and is Chairs the Communication Committee of the Washington Psychiatric Society. In January 2021 Dr. Norris was appointed as the inaugural Medical Director of the GW-SMHS Health and Wellness Center. In this role DR. Norris has administrative and clinical oversight of the Health and Wellness offerings fro students, residents, faculty and staff that compromise the GW Medical Center. I his role as Medical Director Dr Norris places an emphasis on incorporation of integrative medicine principles for prevention of diseases and optimal living and robust treatment and support to treat associated conditions of burnout , depression, and demoralization. Dr. Norris has served as a member of the American Psychiatric Association Council on Psychosomatic Medicine, and the Katzen Cancer Research Center Board of Directors. Dr. Norris was the recipient of the Leonard Tow 2011 Humanism in Medicine Award has been recognized as a Washingtonian Top Doctors for multiple years. Dr. Norris has been elected to membership in the American College of Psychiatry (ACP) , and to the Group for the Advancement for Psychiatry (GAP).
