My research focuses on questions at the intersection of sustainable food systems and natural resource management. The overarching goal of my work is to contribute to identifying synergies for the sustainable management of agrarian environments in ways that support both food production and environmental conservation. In the past few years, my research has not only contributed to an enhanced understanding of hunger in the Global South but also contributed empirical insights on the potential of agroecology as an alternative approach for improving productivity and food security in food insecure smallholder farming communities. My research, which is largely community based, has been instrumental in my teaching. I integrate case studies from my research into my teaching to contextualize theoretical material and students have found this very useful.
