Melissa Lee McCarthy Faculty Member

Positions

Research. My research expertise has shifted in the past couple of years, I have been devoting my expertise to evaluating the role of social determinants of health in healthcare use and costs in the Medicaid population. I really enjoy this area of research and have written several papers per year on the role that social determinants play in emergency department visits, medication adherence, and diabetic retinopathy exams. I am working on several additional papers related to social determinants and healthcare costs as well as incidence of mental health problems. Teaching. I am presently teaching one core course in the HPM department, Statistical Analysis of Health Policy. It is a 3 credit course and during this lyterati review, I taught it in the fall. I also serve as an advisor to approximately 25 MPH students. Service. I am the HPM department representative for the SPH research committee. HPM committees including Appointments and Promotions and the Research Committee. Finally, I am a grant reviewer for the GWU CTSI program and for NIH. During this lyterati review period, I served on 3 NIH study sections.
