Linda Gail Cassar Faculty Member

Positions

Linda Cassar, DNP, RNC-OB, CNE, is a Clinical Assistant Professor at The George Washington University School of Nursing. In her current role, she teaches Maternity and Women’s Health Care, as well as Nursing Leadership on both the graduate and undergraduate level. She is the Course and Clinical Coordinator for the Maternity and Women's Health Care course. Dr. Cassar received her BSN from William Paterson College in 1991, her MSN from the University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey in 2006, and her DNP with a concentration in Executive Leadership from The George Washington University in 2016. She has worked primarily with the maternal/child health patient population, working in Labor and Delivery, Mother/Baby, and High Risk Antepartum. Her professional memberships include AWHONN, where she was a member of the 2018 Emerging Leaders cohort. Within the scope of her AWHONN membership, she serves on the Membership Committee. She is active in the Virginia section, Northern Virginia/DC chapter of AWHONN, currently serving as the co-chair of the chapter. Dr. Cassar is also a member of The National League for Nursing, and is a Certified Nurse Educator. She is a member of the Phi Epsilon chapter of Sigma Theta Tau. Dr. Cassar was the PI on a study in 2018 in conjunction with Inova Health Systems that focused on factors that influence nursing support for breastfeeding. This research won the award for Best Poster Innovation in Direct Clinical Care at the 2018 Virginia Nurses Association Innovations Conference. It was published in the Journal of Perinatal Education in December 2020.She was awarded a grant in 2019 through AWHONN to study compassion fatigue among OB nurses in the United States. That research is currently in progress and scheduled to be completed in 2021.Conducting and disseminating this research will allow leadership that works with this nursing population to better understand the contributing factors, so that they may better support these nurses. In 2021, she received the Award for Excellence in Scholarly Education from AWHONN.
