Dr. Young Hoon Kwak is a faculty member in the Department of Decision Sciences and serves as a Director of International Center for Project Management at The George Washington University School of Business in Washington, D.C. He received his B.S. in Civil Engineering at Yonsei University, Seoul, Korea, M.S. and Ph.D. in Engineering and Project Management from the University of California at Berkeley. He worked as a visiting engineer at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, a visiting assistant professor at the Florida International University, and a visiting scholar at the IPA Institute. He currently holds a visiting professorship at the Department of Business Informatics and Operations Management at Ghent University in Belgium.
Dr. Kwak is Editor-in-Chief of the Journal of Management in Engineering published by American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE), specialty editor for the Case Studies section of the Journal of Construction Engineering and Management (ASCE) and Department Editor for Project Management of the IEEE Transactions on Engineering Management. Dr. Kwak’s primary research interests include project and program management; engineering and technology management; project delivery; and complex megaproject. He has a sector interest in the engineering, construction, infrastructure, and the built environment. Dr. Kwak is a recipient of Construction Industry Institute (CII)’s three-year research grant, four-time recipient of the Project Management Institute (PMI)’s research grant, and three-time recipient of the IBM Center for The Business of Government’s research stipend. He is the winner of 2021 Richard. R. Torrens Award given to journal editor who makes outstanding contributions to the ASCE publications; 2019 Best Peer Review Paper Award for Journal of Management in Engineering (ASCE); 2016 Outstanding Leadership Award from Korean American Construction, Engineering, and Project Management Association (KACEPMA) as a founding president; 2014 International Network of Business and Management Journals (INBAM) Best Paper Award in the track organized by International Journal of Project Management; and 2008 International Project Management Association (IPMA) Outstanding Research Contributions Award.
