I am the author of two novels and a professor of creative writing. My most recent novel, O BEAUTIFUL, which was published by St. Martin's Press on November 9, 2021, was selected as an "Editor's Choice" by the New York Times and Amazon. My debut novel, SHELTER, was originally published in the U.S. by Picador in March of 2016 and reprinted in June 2016 in the U.K. (hardcover), February 2017 (U.S. trade paperback), April 2017 (U.K. trade paperback), November 2017 (Turkish trade paperback), and June 2019 (South Korean trade paperback). Shelter was a finalist for the 2016 Barnes and Noble Discover Great New Writers Program, a semi-finalist nominee for Best Fiction Book of 2016 by Good Reads, long-listed for the 2016 Center for Fiction’s First Novel Prize, and a finalist for the 2017 Boston Authors Club's Julia Ward Howe Award. During the spring semester of 2021, I had the pleasure of teaching one section of ENGL 1210 Introduction to Creative Writing and one section of ENGL 2460 Fiction Writing, which enrolled a total of 34 students (100% enrolled). I formally advised 2 Creative Writing Honors Theses and informally advised several others on career development, job searches, and applying to graduate programs. During the fall semester of 2021, I again taught one section of ENGL 1210 Introduction to Creative Writing and one section of ENGL 2460 Fiction Writing, which enrolled a total of 34 students (100% enrolled). I now have two new Honors Thesis advisees with whom I am working, in addition to ongoing mentoring relationships with students from years past. In terms of service, I contributed to my department and college by serving on the Planning and Development Committee (department), a search committee for the Jenny McKean Moore Writer in Washington (department) a search committee for a tenure-track position in poetry (department), the Undergraduate Studies Committee (CCAS), and two ad hoc selection committees for creative writing awards and honors theses (department).
