Gergana D. Jostova Faculty Member

Positions

I am a Professor of Finance at GWU School of Business and a Chartered Financial Analysts [CFA] charterholder. I obtained my Ph.D. from Boston College in 2002 when I joined GWU. My research focuses on empirical investments and understanding why profitable trading strategies exist and persist. I have published in the Journal of Finance, Journal of Financial Economics, Review of Financial Studies, Journal of Financial and Quantitative Analysis, Management Science, Review of Finance, Journal of Business, Journal of Financial Markets, and the Financial Analysts Journal. My research awards include an IQ-KAP Research Prize (First place), finalist for the 2021 Crowell Prize, finalist in the 2018 Hillcrest Behavioral Finance Awards, Journal of Financial Economics (UTD24) Best Paper Award (Fama/DFA Prizes for Capital Markets and Asset Pricing), Review of Asset Pricing studies best paper of the year award, INQUIRE research grant, two Q-Group awards, FDIC award, and other conference best paper awards. Google scholar citations: 2,332. I have taught in the undergraduate, MBA, Master of Science in Finance, and Ph.D. programs. My teaching evaluations average 4.86/5.0 over the past 3 years, with five classes having average rating of 5.0 (in the undergraduate core, MSF, and Ph.D. programs). My service for the School and University includes chairing the GWSB Teaching Taskforce (2006-2016), being part of the GWSB Personnel Committee (2010-present, chairing since June 2020), and chair of the department APT committee (2018-2020). At the University level, I've served in the Teaching and Learning Center committee, the Honor's committee, and several other university and school task forces. My service to the profession includes serving on the program committee of several finance conferences, refereeing articles for all major finance journals, and discussing papers at conferences. Prior to joining GWU, I have worked for the Trading Strategy Groups at JPMorganChase and Deutsche Bank in NYC.
