Jason C. Osder Faculty Member

Positions

Jason Osder is the director and producer of the award-winning documentary LET THE FIRE BURN and assistant professor at The George Washington University’s School of Media and Public Affairs. LET THE FIRE BURN premiered at the 2013 Tribeca Film Festival where it was awarded the prize for best documentary editing and a jury special mention for best new documentary director. The film went on to play theaters across the U.S. and festivals around the world, receiving accolades including three International Documentary Association Award Nominations, the Cinema Eye Honor for Best Editing, and the Independent Spirit Truer than Fiction Award. The U.S. broadcast premiere was on PBS in 2014. Jason was named one of Filmmaker Magazine’s 25 Top New Faces of Independent Film in 2013. He has a 15-year career in media production in the Washington area with a focus on documentary-style storytelling, postproduction, and education with clients including: National Geographic, The Discovery Channel, Population Services International, the IRS, and PBS Online. Jason is the co-author of Final Cut Pro Workflows: The Independent Studio Handbook and has created over twenty online training courses for Lynda(dot)com on subjects ranging from documentary editing and project management. He writes documentary reviews and essays that have been published in Indiewire, Filmmaker Magazine, Documentary Magazine, Talkhouse, and others. For a decade, Jason has been assistant professor of Media and Public Affairs at the George Washington University. He teaches undergraduate classes there in media production and documentary and has developed new curriculum for the undergraduate programs in Journalism and Political Communications. He is the recipient of the 2011 Honey Nashman Spark a Life Award for Excellence in Student Life.
