Jeffrey Brand is Associate Professor of Philosophy and Affiliated Faculty in the Trachtenberg School of Public Policy and Public Administration at the George Washington University. Dr. Brand specializes in ethics, political philosophy, and philosophy of law. He has published articles in such leading journals as Ethics and Legal Theory. His monograph, Limits of Legality: The Ethics of Lawless Judging, was published in 2010 by Oxford University Press and appeared in Chinese translation with China Renmin University Press in 2017. He published a philosophy of law textbook with Bloomsbury in 2013. In 2010 he received the Morton A. Bender Award for General Teaching Excellence from the George Washington University. He was a full-time Visiting Scholar in the Department of Bioethics at the National Institutes of Health in 2012-13. He holds a J.D. and a Ph.D. in philosophy from the University of Michigan and an A.B. from Vassar College, where he was elected to Phi Beta Kappa. Dr. Brand served as Associate Dean for Graduate Studies in the Columbian College of Arts and Sciences at GW from 2014-2019.
