Irene Oh Koukios Faculty Member

Irene Oh (PhD, University of Virginia) is Chair and Associate Professor of Religion at The George Washington University in Washington, DC. She is the author of The Rights of God: Islam, Human Rights, and Comparative Ethics (Georgetown 2007), numerous essays in peer-reviewed scholarly journals, and is currently writing a book about ethics and the world's religious traditions. Irene is the editor-elect, with Diana Fritz-Cates, of the Journal of Religious Ethics (July 2021). Her research interests broadly cover the area of comparative religious ethics, and include specific topics such as motherhood, Asian American religions, and the arts. She has been elected to the board of the Society of Christian Ethics, is a founding member of the Society for the Study of Muslim Ethics, and serves on the steering committee for the Religion and Human Rights Program Unit of the American Academy of Religion.
