My laboratory has been studying adaptive immunity against Toxoplasma gondii and Encephalitozoon cuniculi for more than 30 years which has led to 80 publications in high profile journals. During this period I have made seminal contribution in these areas and we were first to report the CD8 T cell development and differentiation against these important pathogens. I am considered to be the leader in the field of CD8 T cell immunity against parasitic infection. Most of my publications are in high impact journals like J. Exp. Med., J. Clin. Invest, PNAS, PloS Pathogens J. Immunology, current opinion in immunology. The quality of publications takes a precedence over the numbers . The standing in the field is demonstrated by the fact that I have written number of invited review articles in the field of my research. I am also section editor of chief for Frontiers in Immunology and on the editorial board of Seminars in Pathology and Infection and Immunity. The current research focus of my laboratory is i)studying the underlying causes of CD8 dysfunction during chronic infection (ii) role of micoRNAs in the regulation of CD8T cell exhaustion (iii)importance of IL-21 ion thymic T cell development and early effector T cell response. (iv) Role of TRM in the chronic toxoplasma infection. These are very important questions which will provide important insights into understanding of the factors involved in the development of protective immunity against intracellular pathogens.
During my research career i have mentored number of post-docs and most of them have been successful in getting faculty position in academia or important jobs in biotech industry.
