Dr. Adnan Hyder is Senior Associate Dean for Research and Professor of Global Health at the Milken Institute School of Public Health; and Head of Research Pod-2 at George Washington University. For over 20 years, Dr. Hyder has worked to improve global health in low- and middle- income countries across Africa, Asia, Latin America, and the Middle East; and pioneered empirical work around health systems, ethics, Non-Communicable Diseases (NCDs), and injury prevention in the developing world. He has conducted studies focusing on defining the epidemiological burden, understanding risk factors, exploring potential interventions, estimating economic impact, and appreciating the socio-cultural correlates of NCDs and injuries around the world. Currently, he also serves as the founding Director of the Center for Commercial Determinants of Health at George Washington University. Dr. Hyder has co-authored over 375 scientific peer-reviewed papers and numerous world reports on road safety, child injuries, and health systems. He has directed masters and doctoral programs in public health; taught over a dozen courses both on campus and online; and produced key papers on educational pedagogy for capacity development and mentoring. Previously, Dr. Hyder served as Associate Chair, Department of International Health and Director, Health Systems Program, Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health; Associate Director for Global Programs, Johns Hopkins Berman Institute of Bioethics; and founding Director, Johns Hopkins International Injury Research Unit. Dr. Hyder received his M.D. from the Aga Khan University, Pakistan and obtained his MPH and Ph.D. in Public Health from Johns Hopkins University, USA.
