Elizabeth Grant Faculty Member

Elizabeth Grant is associate professor of education in the Graduate School of Education and Human Development at The George Washington University. Dr. Grant leads GSEHD’s research-practice partnership work and teaches courses on education policy and policymaking. Working with Dean Feuer and Associate Dean Green, she helped develop and establish a new education Master’s degree program in Baku, Azerbaijan. She has served in the DEL Department leadership since 2019. Dr. Grant previously served as senior vice president at Jobs for the Future overseeing the postsecondary, education policy, high school design and student-centered learning teams. Prior to that position, she was vice president at American Institutes for Research leading a policy and research division of 170 staff and contributing to the strategic direction of AIR's Education program. At the U.S. Department of Education, she served as chief of staff in the Office of Elementary and Secondary Education and as a senior policy advisor working on accountability policy, secondary school initiatives, and state technical assistance. Earlier, she worked as a fellow in the office of U.S. Senator Patty Murray, developing legislation to build education pathways for youth to 21st century careers. Dr. Grant has more than a dozen years of experience in schools serving as an elementary school principal and junior high and high school teacher. She holds a Ph.D. in education policy and an M.A. in sociology from Stanford University, an M.Ed. in teaching from Harvard University, and a B.A. from the University of Utah.
