Positions

I am a scholar of eighteenth- and nineteenth-century literature and culture. My scholarship has up to this point focused primarily on linguistic normativity as it underwrites both aesthetics and politics. As such, I study standard and nonstandard writing practices and am keenly interested in both intralingual and interlingual translation, a topic that is discussed a great length in my recent book, Multilingual Subjects: Standard English, Its Speakers, and Others in the Long Eighteenth Century. Beyond this book, my work has appeared in Studies in Romanticism, The Eighteenth Century: Theory and Interpretation, Eighteenth Century Fiction, the Journal of British Studies, Modern Philology, and other journals of high repute. I am currently working on a book project relating to form and circulation during the late-eighteenth century, especially among "dangerous" and "subsersive" texts and tropes.
