Diego Abente Brun, Ph.D., is a Visiting Professor and Director of the Latin American and Hemispheric Studies Program at the Elliott School for International Affairs, GWU,
He has been a Senator, Ambassador, and Minister of Justice and Labor in Paraguay (1993-2003), Deputy Director of the International Forum for Democratic Studies at the National Endowment for Democracy (2007-2011), OAS Resident Representative in Ecuador (2014-2017), and as a consultant for the world bank, the IADB, and the Institute for Social Studies, University of Essex.
Dr. Abente Brun had previously been a tenured associate Professor of Political Science at Miami University, Ohio, and an Adjunct Professor at the Universidad Católica de Asunción and the Graduate Program of the National University of Paraguay.
He is the author or editor of more than thirty-five books and articles published in refereed journals in the US, Chile, Paraguay, and the United Kingdom.
