Teaching, Directing the Program and Service remain the most prevalent aspects of my work here at the College. I continue to oversee the redevelopment of classes which are at the heart of my teaching and the Program. Specifically, in regard to teaching, since beginning at GW, I have taught four courses (16 credit) in the undergraduate Cybersecurity Program each year. In approaching my classes, I employ an architectural methodology of course materials and assignments with the primary goal of enhancing student success. Each semester I spend time, where appropriate, re-designing my courses using new strategies for student engagement and success. In order to create a dynamic and collaborative exchange, I construct an interactive learning environment in my classroom. In my view, the best learning occurs through lively discussion with reference to the material. During the Fall 2021 semester, I built-out and Online class for the Business School (ISTM 6206) and deployed the class. The course took almost a year to construct with the assistance of the SoB Instructional Design Department. In regard to research, over the past year I continued to work with the National Center of Missing and Exploited Children wherein I’ve been developing a model for the solvability factors in long term missing children. Service to the College, University and Community takes up a considerable amount of time. Due to the current demand in Northern Virginia for Cybersecurity; much of my time revolves around working with Government and Industry to create potential opportunities for the Institution and our students. Specifically, in regard to service, I continue to volunteer in a variety of areas, including but not limited to, (1) Resilient DC, (2) GW CyberCorps: Scholarships for Service and Cybersecurity Scholarship Program, (3) National Center for Missing and Exploited Children and (4) my commitments to the Church. As Director of the Program, I work in concert with Marketing and Recruiting (Lynn McKnight) to grow the Cybersecurity Program in terms of student numbers. As well, I’m constantly seeking out new faculty (Mr. Dereje Tekola) and assisting the current ones in achieving their best.
