Carol Fritz Braungart Faculty Member

Dr. Carol Braungart has been the Director of the Family Nurse Practitioner Program at The George Washington University (GW) since 2017. She earned her Doctorate in Nursing Practice from GW and Post-Master's Certificate as a Family Nurse Practitioner and Acute Care Nurse Practitioner. She is also board certified from the American Nurse Credentialing Center and has current licensure in New York State, District of Columbia, Virginia, Washington State and Minnesota. In her current role, Dr. Braungart has led the initiative to develop best practice in Simulation within the Nurse Practitioner Program. Dr. Braungart is the Co-Principal Investigator of a recent grant from the National Colleges of States Boards of Nursing awarded to the GW School of Nursing to research virtual simulation contributions towards required clinical hours in the Family Nurse Practitioner Program. This research study will be conducted with students in the N6232 course during the 2021, 2022 and 2023 Academic Year. Due to constraints of on-campus activity during the pandemic, Dr. Braungart has created and implemented the simulation events in the FNP program to include virtual/telemedicine activity for learning. She is facilitating a new model of simulation to be deployed in spring, 2022. She has also worked continuously over the past 2 years with the Milken School of Public Health and has built content within the clinical courses that involves case study work with MPH students. She has extended and embedded IPE activity into the graduate curriculum which will be requirement in CCNE accreditation. Most recently, this activity was awarded honorable mention in the 2021 Interprofessional Education Collaborative Commissioned Officers Foundation for the Advancement of Public Health where she participated as facilitator with other academic universities. Dr. Braungart has clinical expertise in Internal Medicine and serves as a Data Analytics Consultant with the Practice Intelligence Team at Acuitas Health.
