Catherine Wilson Cox Faculty Member

Dr. Cox came to GWU in 2016 from the American Association of Colleges of Nursing (AACN) in Washington, DC, where she was the Director of Programs from 2012-2016. She received her BSN from Radford University, her MSN from Marymount University, and her PhD in Nursing from George Mason University. She started her career as a Navy nurse in the ICU at the National Naval Medical Center in Bethesda, MD, and in 2014 retired as a Captain from the U.S. Navy Reserves. She has taught nursing students at Marymount University, Georgetown University, and the University of North Carolina at Wilmington. Via the Navy she has lived and traveled not only in the United States but also in Okinawa, Japan and the Kingdom of Bahrain. Since her arrival at GW Nursing, Dr. Cox has achieved outstanding teaching evaluations (and serves as a role model for team teaching); was funded in 2020 (peri-op grant) and 2021 (shipboard nursing grant); has published several scholarly publications/year; and continues to provide service to the school, the university, and the profession. In 2020 she became a Fellow in the American Academy of Nursing (FAAN).
