Sarah A. Binder Faculty Member

Positions

Sarah Binder is professor of political science at George Washington University and senior fellow at the Brookings Institution. She is an expert on legislative politics and political institutions. She is the author or co-author of five books and numerous articles on Congress and legislative politics. Her most recent book, The Myth of Independence: How Congress Governs the Federal Reserve (which won two awards from the American Political Science Association), explores the century-long relationship of Congress and the Fed and demonstrates how political pressures constrain the Fed's performance. She was elected to the American Academy of Arts and Sciences in 2015. She has served in the past as the president of the Midwest Political Science Association and now serve as parliamentarian of the GW Faculty Senate.
