Angela M. McNelis Faculty Member

Positions

Dr. McNelis is at the forefront of national efforts to transform nursing education so that new nurses from entry to advanced levels are prepared for practice. Over her 20-year academic career, she provided leadership on a series of grants focused on: exploring and developing models to improve clinical and didactic education in undergraduate and graduate programs; increasing the number and diversity of advanced practice psychiatric mental health nursing students and graduates; improving the practice skills of advanced practice nurses and social workers to screen and intervene with clients who have substance use disorders; increasing the prevalence and rigor of interprofessional education at all levels; and understanding barriers and facilitators to increasing the number of faculty in schools of nursing nationally. Her most recent research examined the current state of nurse practitioner clinical education to identify what is and is not occurring. She just launched an intervention study to implement and evaluate virtual simulation to provide experiences identified as gaps in the prior study.
